  • The Familiar

Book 41 of Animorphs. This was a fantastic look at a possible future. This was unlike any in the series and still leaves you with more questions than answers. I like that at some level the author is addressing how hard a secret would be to keep inside a household. Regardless a nice dystopian feel…

  • Mystery of the Lost Mine

Book 52 of the Boxcar Children. The Alden’s are off to look for the Lost Dutchman’s Mine. We’ll at least they’re the area. The formula is still working well with plenty of red herrings and suspects along the way. Well written and a little different scenery than normal but they still get their bad guy.

  • Cultivation

Book 3 of Battle Mage Farmer. This was as gripping and fun as the previous books and leaves me still dying to read book 4. The only downside was that there were a lot of places I thought he could use X spell that he had learned and never did. If you really want a…

  • The Other

Book 40 of the Animorphs series. I really liked this book. Finally some good substance tackling questions on prejudice for the disabled. Not agreeing 100% on the ending but the very end is pretty cool and allows for some really good future prospects. The battle in this one I was a little disappointed with as…

  • Mystery in the Cave

Book 50 in the Boxcar Children series. This was a good one. Almost to the brink of danger but still kept very low key for those young readers. Oh what a different world. I could only imagine people now a days telling young kids, “Oh no problem go explore those underground caves.” Just interesting how…

  • The Three Princes of Serendip

This was a middle eastern collection of fables. They were great. I had even heard of some of them before. Like many great fables, these had a lot of wisdom in them. I highly recommend the read.

  • The Mystery on the Train

Book 51 of the Boxcar Children. This book was full of twists. Wonderfully put together. Loved the guy in the disguise. Loved the intention. This book was a strong representation of the mystery genera. I liked it.

  • The Grim Grotto

Book 11 of the Series of Unfortunate Events. This was another in the series that takes us deeper into the misfortune. This was great as it had some fantastic twists. I am excited for the final two books in the series. For such a short book, this felt like a lot was covered.

  • The Running Man

A great read. The Hunger Games before the Hunger Games were ever thought about. A dystopian future where there are no happy endings. If you want to experience what the true Hunger Games would be like, pick this up. I love the concept of doing something to keep people from realizing how bad it really…

  • The Hidden

Book 39 of Animorphs. This was probably my favorite of the whole series. This one posed some very deep philosophical questions. And while the answer to the question was taken out of their hands, I wish there had been a different resolution. Overall this book will have you thinking well beyond that last page.
