Book 1 of The Dragon Star Chronicles. This little novel is an epic fantasy for middle grade that would appeal to those who enjoyed the How to Train Your Dragon series. The cultural view is more islander vs Nordic but same audience should enjoy this. This book is, like most epic fantasy, an introduction to the planned 4 book series. I imagine that starting into book 2, we will be introduced to the main arc of the series. I will read book 2 because I enjoyed this despite not personally liking the epic fantasy genre. If you have some young readers that enjoy series like above mentioned, elemental magic, overcoming disabilities, and dragons have them give this series a shot.
