In the grotesque shoes of the Lottery, Hunger Games, the Roman Coliseum you have the Long Walk. This book takes you along and lets you join in the awful hell that would be living in this situation. The idea is a car crash that you cannot look away from. As person after person gets their ticket, you wonder if it will all end. Toward the end the last few remind me of the survivor from Alone on the Ice. There are a few points in the plot that I wish were better explained or that there had been a twist at the end better explaining the winner’s motivation. All in all good pacing and strong book, but not necessarily in my top ten.
