Book 3 of the Earthsea Cycle. Sparrowhawk archmage steps away from his duties to save the world and takes an unlikely champion with him. This story like so many of her others has layers of meaning and will leave you with things to think about far into it. I loved in particular the idea of being so focused on living forever that you become dead to the world. The irony isn’t lost on those so busy seeking riches that they never enjoy the freedom that those riches bring. It is easy to see why this series is such a classic and shares accolades with works like CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien. A must read for fans of fantasy.
