Book 1 of Hurog. This novel is a great fantasy without relying too much on magic. It skirts the realm of epic fantasy but would need to be about twice as long. That said the ending feels extremely rush, almost like the author decided that this 12 book series should just be a single book. I am interested to see if book 2 takes another direction to deepen where we have been. Book 1 does wrap up the story so there is not an obvious path forward. The overall theme of rising and surviving abuse was interesting along with the journey of self discovery and dealing with the ugly parts that go along with that. Overall a strong fantasy read.
