All Quiet on the Western Front

This classic takes us into the heart of the war on the side of the Germans. I liked this POV change as we, Americans, seldom see the war from the viewpoint of the adversary. Also, it was great to feel the similarities in contrast to what one might think of their enemies. This novel is gritty and takes you into foxholes in a very intimate way. I loved the juxtaposition he is put in when he goes on leave and sees people in their everyday life and compares it to his reality. Fear, pain, and loss leaves you with a deeper understanding of war. If you’ve been putting it off, pick this one up and read it. It will be worth your time.
