This is a raw look at slavery that is reminiscent of Ten Years a Slave or Uncle Tom’s Cabin. As we follow the travels of Cora we get an up close personal view of what it was like. One of the startling comparisons I drew as I read was the scene reminiscent of the Diary of Anne Frank. I loved how gritty and real this novel felt and that it brings another view to a time distanced from our current world views. Highly recommend you read this one.
